NASA Accepting Aps for its Astronaut Training Program

spacesuit.jpg

Now's your chance! NASA announced today that it's accepting candidates for the 2009 Astronaut Candidate Class. According to today's a press release, those selected for the class could end up on long-duration stays on the International Space Station, and might go to the moon.

What does it take to be an astronaut? Let's let the chainsmokers in short-sleeve dress shirts with skinny ties and pocket protectors tell you:

To be considered, a bachelor's degree in engineering, science or math and three years of relevant professional experience are required. Typically, successful applicants have significant qualifications in engineering or science, or extensive experience flying high-performance jet aircraft. Teaching experience, including work at the kindergarten through 12th grade level, is considered qualifying. Educators with the appropriate educational background are encouraged to apply.

Applications are being accepted through July 1, 2008, and final selections will be announced in early 2009 for the class beginning Summer '09.
