Saw III Director's Remake of Scanners

scanners2.jpg

Horror blog Arrow in the Head is reporting that the remake of one of my favorite psychosexual B movies, Cronenberg's Scanners, is set to hit theaters on October 17, 2008, which happens to be the 19th anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake.

Helmed by Saw II and III director Darren Lynn Bousman, the film was announced at San Diego's Comic Con International, but doesn't seem to be getting a lot of press.

That's probably because the international military industrial entertainment complex is distracted by Bousman's next project, Repo! The Genetic Opera, a stirring romance about organ repossession in the future. Repo!'s listing in IMDB promises a bizarre array of personalities onscreen: Paris Hilton, Paul Sorvino, Nivek Ogre, and Anthony Head -- Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- not to mention Saw series Jigsaw killer Tobin Bell and Mrs. Andrew Lloyd Webber herself, Sara Brightman.

As for Scanners, Cronenberg himself reportedly doesn't like the idea, saying: "I'd prefer they not."

Mr. Bousman... that sensation you're having? 10 seconds.
