While I normally hesitate to send you to a slideshow because it’s against my religion to reward websites with traffic for non-embeddable features, Discovery’s Five Animals Named For Famous Monsters is terrific enough to have me break this personal rule. Until animals begin to be named named after contemporary monsters, such as the Mel Gibson Pinworm, it’s actually really cool to see five species who’ve had their names sourced from fictional (and horror movie) monsters that have apparently haunted us truly, madly and deeply enough as a species ourselves that we apparently know the monsters in real life when we see them — and name them accordingly.
